I did more post-pass driving today. Seeing as I now have a full licence, I was let loose on the motorway for the first time ever. It wasn’t as scary as I originally expected, but the Highways Agency have much to thank for that; being kind enough to close the stretch of M4 between Chippenham and Lansdown, to allow me to have a private run all to myself. I did nearly hit a cow, but managed to drive back out of the famer’s field and onto the road again.

It’s been about 6 months since I passed my driving test and I had not driven since. Given the fact I did not drive home on the day I passed my test, I had never driven as a qualified driver either. This was all until yesterday, when I took a refreshed lesson-cum-Pass Plus course.

I took so long to get my licence that my original instructor retired. He was a young man when he took me on my first lesson and was ready to collect his pension on the day I passed.

The lesson went well. Surprisingly, I hadn’t forgotten how to drive a car. I suppose those hours put into playing Grand Theft Auto 5 all paid off. I even learnt a couple of new things, which will come in very useful when I am let loose behind the wheel without an instructor in the passenger seat. When that day does finally arrive, everyone should remain inside, lock their doors and windows, and pray to whatever God they may have. If they do not have a God, they should get one – fast.

Been a little quite on the blogging front since my last post, involving a near death experience after finding a stone in my raisins. Since blogging, I have some news, which some of you may find exciting, while others very worrying.

On Friday 21st June, the longest day of the year, I became the owner of something Carlos Tevez does not possess. A pretty face it is not. No, a clean and valid driving licence. Yes, in a roundabout way, this blog is confirming I passed my driving test. Woo-hoo. Not a bad effort, considering I originally planned to start driving in 2005 (although it was many years after, I actually bothered to have lessons)

So yes, some will be excited. Most sensible people who share the roads with me and use pavements, will no doubt be perturbed, as I’ll be behind a wheel.

I can now pretend to understand even enjoy Top Gear.

Yesterday I went for my first introductory driving lesson! I went to an empty(ish) car park and practiced a few basics… turn on engine, check gear is in neutral, press on clutch, put car into 1st gear, push accelerator, slowly release clutch, drive, press clutch, break. See I can do it :o)

An early edition of The SmartCar

I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for Team America: World Police today. One of the funniest parts of the movie was the songs. “Everyone has AIDS”, “Freedom Isn’t Free” and the brilliant “The End of an Act” – Pearl Harbour did indeed suck!

Like with Trey Parker’s previous efforts (for South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut), the Team America soundtrack is brilliant, bringing back funny memories of the film. The music and lyrics aren’t to bad either…

“What would you do, if someone told you to fight for freedom? Would you answer the call, or run away like a little pussy?”

“I guess Pearl Harbour sucked, just a little bit more than I miss you…”

“Everyone has AIDS! Aids, Aids, Aids, Aids, etc… etc… etc…” – the less said about these lyrics the better!

If you're expecting The Man Booker Prize, you've come to the wrong place. If you want to read a collection of sometimes eccentric, often disturbing and rarely amusing ramblings, gorge your eyes on this.
