A big “thank you” is in order to the Leeds players. Thank you for not making my trip to Leeds a total waste of time and leaving me in another state of depression.
The afternoon started bad. My seat at the ground was very close to the pitchside and the action. The only problem with sitting there is that you are left exposed to all the elements of Mother Nature. The weather was shit. Howling gales and torrential rain left me dripping wet and freezing cold before a ball had even been kicked.
When the game finally did start, my misery was compounded when I saw the way that the players were performing. Like the weather, they were shit. Hoofing the ball high into the air, passing it to the opposition and running around in an extremely clueless manner. It was like watching an event from The Special Olympics.
Then it all changed. I don’t know how, but somehow one of the fools in a white shirt scored a fabulous goal. Its funny how when you’re team is winning, you forget all about the fact that you are soaked to the bone and shivering like a shitting dog.
When the whistle went for half time, I was in a happier mental state and was able to enjoy a Chicken Balti Pie, safe in the knowledge that my beloved Leeds United were not going to get raped again.
The second half impressed me. It wasn’t long before Leeds scored again – twice, and were 3-0 up. I spent the rest of the game sat in a pool of rain water, hoping for a fourth goal and praying that Colchester would not score themselves.
It ended 3-0 and apart from being soaking wet, I was left very happy. Before the game, I did promise myself that I would not buy anything from the club shop, but due to the fact my only pair of jeans was soaking wet, I had to buy a pair of tracksuit bottoms.
