Last night I went to see Bad Santa at the cinema. I had never really planned on seeing this but as it was December, bored on a midweek evening, I thought I would watch a funny Christmas film.
It was certainly no classic but I am glad I went to see it. In the film, Billy Bob Thornton plays Willie, a drunken, abusive and crooked Santa Clause with his sidekick in crime Marcus a midget or “small person” (played by Tony Cox).
Willie goes to department stores dressed as Santa where he must put up with drooling, sneezing, smelly fat children asking him awkward questions about reindeer, elves and Mrs. Santa (she kicked him out for shagging Mrs. Santa’s sister). He survives by drinking himself stupid which then leads to bladder accidents. A funny film, one for the festive season but NOT for the kids!
One of the funniest moments of my trip to the cinema yesterday was not actually the film. It was a trailer for the British Comedy, Churchill: The Hollywood Years, which to my surprise was released today (I’ll be off again to see it this weekend).
It is a comedy based around World War 2, Winston Churchill and Hitler (yes, this subject can be funny!) and stars big names like Jon Culshaw, Harry Enfield, Rik Mayall, Vic & Bob to name a few, oh and a little known actor called Christian Slater.
Finally, I have been introduced by a friend into the new drama series Lost which is currently showing on ABC in America. It isn’t overhere on television until the New Year (Channel 4 and E4 are said to have the rights). I’ve only seen the Pilot so far but that is very, very good and it is receiving rave reviews overseas.
The series follows a group of people whose aeroplane has crash-landed miles off course onto a strange island. They assume the island is deserted but some mysterious, large creatures live there and see the new residents as lunch…
If you can’t wait to see it, there are ways of obtaining it if you like outside the US. I wouldn’t want to say how here but anybody who has ever downloaded an MP3 from the net (about 99% of Internet users!) should have some idea.
