This is an appeal to anybody who supports Leeds United Football Club, to fans or football and to those who just hate Manchester United.

This week, to celebrate their promotion to The Championship, Leeds United FC have re-released their club anthem ‘Leeds, Leeds, Leeds (Marching on Together)’

Following a campaign which has featured on Facebook and even Sky Sports News, Leeds fans are hoping for their song to get into the Top 40 next weekend and ideally No.1.

Being in the official chart will mean radio stations will have to play the record. Imagine the delight of Leeds supporters as their song is played to the world. Better still, envisage the look on the face of Manchester United scumbag, Gary Neville, when the anthem comes booming out of his car stereo.

Picture the reaction of Eamonn Holmes, who despite being Irish, feels a deep affinity with a club from Manchester, England.

Most importantly of all, do it for Saint Simon Grayson – the Football God. The man who got Leeds promoted. The man who beat the scum in their own back yard.

The song can be purchased for just a few English pence on iTunes, Play.com or Amazon.

If you need even more convincing, if Leeds don’t get to No.1, Lady Gaga will.

After much anticipation, I finally got my grubby little mitts on a copy of The Wurzels’ new cover album A Load More Bullocks. The album isn’t officially out into next month, so this is very much a pre-release; despite this, it is the finished product, 100% legal and not from some dodgy MP3 website – I paid for it and own a copy on Compact Disc! (Proper retro!)

My favourite track has to be the cover of Nickelback’s Rockstar – it really suits lead singer, Pete Budd’s Somerset vocals. Pulp’s Common People is funny and should be released as a single. I also enjoyed the cover of Go West – very fitting for The Wurzels.

The first official single to be released on the album is a cover of The Kaiser Chiefs’ Ruby. While I enjoyed the track, it wasn’t the best from the album and I was left slightly disappointed. Maybe it is because I am a fan of the original version of the song and expected more.

There is a nice and uplifting cover of Take That’s Up All Night. The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger is ‘Wurzelised’ well and will no doubt be a big hit at parties.

The Strangler’s who share manager, Sil Wicox, with the West Country band have their classic Golden Brown featured on the album – this is actually given some justice and taken somewhat seriously (by The Wurzels standard, anyway).

Tears For Fears’ – Sowing the Seeds of Love and Spinal Tap’s Sex Farm also feature. However, shamefully I am not familiar with the original recordings so can’t comment too much!

As a nice touch, the beautiful Ode to Adge is included at the end of the album, where Pete Budd performs his own tribute to the late Adge Cutler – founder of The Wurzels.

With every international tournament that England enter, you can always be sure of two things. Firstly, England will go out on penalties. Secondly, a football song will be released to roar our boys onto victory misery. In Euro ’96 we had the classic, Three Lions. Since then, with a few expectations, each song has been as disappointing as England’s performance.

Judging by the song for this year’s World Cup, it appears things haven’t changed.

I’ll save you the bother of listening to the drivel and causing your ear drums to bleed. The song, if you can call it that, is performed by various football commentators. Part of the track includes a section where a commentator acts out a penalty shootout win for England in the World Cup final.

It really is cringe-worthy. After listening to it, I just wanted to climb into a cave and die.

It would have been far better and more realistic if Alan Green had taken part and included the lines “this game is terrible”, “the referee is having a shocker” or “that is a disgraceful dive by Ronaldo!”

Still, we’re not the only country to release a World Cup song. France are apparently doing one themselves – Thierry Henry had a hand in it.

It is quite possibly the most anticipated album since Michael Jackson’s Thriller… The Wurzel’s upcoming covers collection – A Load More Bullocks – the follow up to their excellent Never Mind the Bullocks release.

Here is an excerpt from their official press release

The famous Scrumpy and Western band have put their distinctive ‘west country’ stamp on this fine collection of classic contemporary hits. Take That’s ‘Up All Night’, Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’, Pulp’s ‘Common People’ and The Stranglers’ ‘Golden Brown’ have all been Wurzelised. Other notable highlights include The Fratelli’s ‘Chelsea Dagger’, Spinal Tap’s ‘Sex Farm’ and the first single – a stunning version of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’

I am excited by the proposed songs and am especially looking forward to the Kaiser Chief’s cover. Hopefully they’ll find time to do Cheryl Cole’s Fight for This Love and that song by Journey that is being played to death everywhere. Both of which would sound great with a Somerset twist.

The album is set for release on the 13th June. Seeing as its release will coincide with The World Cup, how about doing a song for the England National Team?

The musical legends of The West Country visited the non-league football legends of The West Country last night. It was, of course, Somerset’s answer to JLS, The Wurzels, playing at Bath City FC.

This is the second time I have seen The Wurzels, after I went to their Komedia gig last year. The set list was more or less the same, but that didn’t stop it being an excellent evening.

1) The Blackbird
2) The Champion Dung Spreader
3) The Marrow Song
4) The Shepton Mallet Matador
5) Farmer Bill’s Cowman
6) Pill Pill
7) Somerset Trouser Varnish Shakedown
8) All Over Mendip
9) Good old Somerset
10) I Am A Cider Drinker
11) Don’t Look Back In Anger
12) Combine Harvester
13) Drink Up Thy Cider

This time, I was even able to meet the band at the end of the gig and get CDs signed… that should raise a few quid on eBay… joking.

I was disappointed they didn’t adapt their song Drink Up Thy Zider to match the Bath City version

Drink up thy zider, drink up thy zider,
For tonight we’ll merry be,
We’ll all go down to Yeovil, and do the bastards over

Although I think all the Bath City supporters who attended the event sung loud enough to make the revised (and arguably better) lyrics heard.
