I have just done something I have never done before. Something I once thought I would never do and that some may even call embarrassing… I bought and downloaded the X Factor Christmas single by Joe McElderry.

While I enjoyed the series, I was not one of the die hard fans – I even missed the final. However, after reading about an internet campaign by Rage Against the Machine fans to get their band’s single the Christmas No.1 spot, I simply couldn’t stand by and allow it.

I like most genres of music, but if there’s one piece I despise, it’s metal; whether it be rock-metal, rap-metal, thrash-metal, steel, aluminium or tin metal.

That is why I donated 65 Great British pence to Simon Cowell’s cause to get Joe to Crimbo No.1. Even after laughing at Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League in May, I would still rather see a happy Geordie than a happy metalhead.

Join the cause – download the single now.

My ears are still ringing after a fantastic evening at Komedia watching The Wurzels. Somehow, I ended up right at the front, within touching distance of the West Country legends.

Highlights of the setlist included their Combine Harvester remix, the Don’t Look Back In Anger cover and Drink Up Thy Zider – plus many, many more.

They’re back in Bath in February at Twerton Park. I will be going.

Thank you to Radio 1 DJ, Scott Mills, for clearing up something that has bugging me for a while now.

Every time I heard the chorus of the new song by the Kaiser Chief’s, Good Days Bad Days, I knew that I recognised the tune from somewhere. Now I know…

While browsing the net this morning, I discovered that there was a new Killers album out, entitled Sawdust. I was so excited by this news, I immediately went and downloa… err… went out to HMV and bought it.

Sawdust isn’t your typical Killers album, more of a collection of B-Sides, soundtrack titles and covers; it is still, like all Killers material, very good indeed.

Some stand out tracks include Tranquilize which features Lou Reed – the one who was on that Satellite of Love dance track a few years ago (although he probably also did some albums that old people may remember).

There is a wonderful track called Sweet Talk, which captures the Killers’ style perfectly.

Also on the album is an excellent remix of the Sam’s Town track which is on the previous album of the same name.

The best song on the album is kept to near the end – a beautiful cover of Dire Straight’s Romeo and Juliet. D.S. fans will probably see it as sacrilege, but if like me, you love The Killers and couldn’t give a toss about Mark Knopfler and his fellow Geordies, you’ll adore the track.

I was surprised that their cover of Morrissey’s Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself wasn’t included – quiet possibly the best cover of any song ever.

So you stumbled across my blog. No doubt after searching for something bizarre on Google. Before you hit that 'Back Button', why not stay and have a read for a few minutes?

If you are after a website which gives advice on how to hack an iPhone X, download the latest Steven Seagal movie, or view nudy ladies, you've come to the wrong place and may now press 'Back'.

However, if you would like a lifestyle blog, written by a 30-something chap, living in Bath (England), feast your eyes on this.

You won't discover how to copy PlayStation 4 games. What you will find is a blog, covering life in the West Country, the highs and lows of supporting two unsuccessful football teams, while sharing a house with a wife and rabbit.

All written by a man, somewhere on the sanity-scale between normal and eccentric.
