I had a big surprise when I looked at my website stats today; I had thousands and thousands of visitors in one day. Now I normally get around 50-100, but the amount I got today was what I would normally get in a month!
Curious, I took a look at the referrals; the vast majority had come from The Official Leeds United website who had published my positive comments on the team’s recent success and my now infamous Blackwell “Managing for Dummies” parody.
This is the recent message which brought Sparkster.net all the fame while praising the best football team in the land at the same time – Marching on Together,
This is a message for Kevin Blackwell and the Leeds United squad…
Thank you Blackie for all your efforts you have put into Leeds United Football Club.
Since you took over as gaffer, the club has been totally transformed for the better.
I’m sure we will continue to improve and will be playing Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal in The Premiership in the next few years – hopefully Real Madrid and Milan in a few years after that, I won’t get too carried away though!
I live in Bath so find it a little harder to get to Elland Road than most Leeds fans. I do try to make the 400 mile round trip whenever I can though.
I’m hoping to go to the Ipswich and Rotherham game this season and will be buying a Forever Leeds Membership for 2005/6.
Anyway, in honour of Blackwell and Leeds United I have created this parody book cover – http://www.sparkster.net/imagedumps/fordummies.htm
Hope you like it!
If Blackwell is ever stuck for cash, maybe he could write the book to go with the cover!
Still on the topic of football, did anybody see Delia Smith’s drunken outburst last night live on Sky Sports? The celebrity chef who also owns Norwich Football Club was more than a little pissed off (and pissed!) about her team going from 2-0 up to 2-2 against Man City by half time. She took the mic and started shouting and rambling at the fans in a bid to rally them round. They lost 3-2. Here’s the clip of her drunken outburst.
How the media laughed at her, but in some ways I admire the lady for her love of the football club. It takes a lot of guts (and probably a lot of sherry) to get up and do what she did, but it was with all good intentions. Having witnessed my own team struggling for survival I know what it is like. Well done Delia! Good luck to Nrowich.
Sorry about the absence of blogs for the last few days, I had a few things on but now normal service can be resumed :o)
I case you were wondering, all of February’s blogs are in the archive.
