I have now returned from Devon after a very nice holiday with Claire.
This afternoon is the Bath City Sponsored Walk. Regular readers of my blog will remember I took part in the 2009 event, joining many other Bath City fans in walking around the city in a bid to raise money and awareness for the football club.
While I will not be making the 8 mile trip today, I am going into town to help with the Bath City stall, promoting the club and handing out leaflets and flyers.
Come the evening, I will be changing my Bath City shirt for an England top and going to the clubhouse at Twerton Park, where I shall watch England’s opening game of the World Cup, against some tiny 3rd World Country on the other side of the Atlantic.
Yesterday was the first day of my holiday with Claire. I say first day – we travelled down on Monday. However, Tuesday was the first time that I could wake up in the morning and shout “I’m in Devon!”.
A lot of yesterday was spent in the amusement arcades, with far too much money put into the 2p machines. Tokens were won.
I was surprised by the number of people in Liverpool shirts. There were more Liverpool fans in Dawlish than in the whole city of Liverpool.
We were also amused by a moaning Essex family – whinging and complaining about the lack of things to do. On behalf of the people of Devon, I would like to apologise for things not being as exciting and beautiful as Dagenham.
We’re off out into the town again today. Hopefully I’ll win some more tokens. Maybe I’ll get enough to buy a keyring!
Tomorrow I am away on holiday for a week.
I will be going to the beautiful county of Devonshire, or Devonshirrrrrre as it’s pronounced locally.
Apparently Devon is famous for producing two of my favourite things – cider and pasties. I know what my diet will be for the next few days.
Hopefully it’ll be nice weather, with heat to equal that of a Beijing kitchen, but as this is England, it’ll probably rain. I’ll bring my coat…
Whatever happens, I just hope my summer trip is better than Rio Ferdinand’s.
After watching the whole series, including the semi finals all this week, I was left disappointed with the eventual winner, Spelbound, despite the victory being fully justified.
My favourite act of the whole series was The Arrangement – the posh 6th form students who performed modern day songs in an opera style. Sadly, they didn’t make it beyond the semi final, despite a truly fabulous performance.
Following their audition last month, I was also a fan of The Chippendoubles – a lookalike group. However, their semi-final entry was very much disappointing and I felt it was the right decision they failed to make the final.
Two of my favourite contestants did, however, make it to Saturday night’s final – impressionist Paul Burling and Chandi the dancing dog. Sadly, neither won the show, but both did themselves proud.
Hopefully The Arrangement will go on to release an album, Paul Burling get his own TV show and Chandi, who is approaching 100 in dog years, live out a happy retirement, before going to doggy heaven to dream of bones and chasing cats.
