Last night I watched Hero on DVD – originally known as Ying xiong. Hero is a martial arts film, originally released in China and dubbed and subtitled for Westerners.

I enjoyed it a lot, the fight scenes were really impressive as are the locations and use of colours, music and sound – beautifully produced.

The storyline is highly original as well. It shows different characters versions of events in the lead up to the films climax. Something I have not seen done before.

Today I have been teaching myself Visual Basic.NET 2003. I’ve installed Visual Studio and am using ‘Beginning VB.NET 2003’ to learn the language.

So far so good, I got through Chapter One with no problems (I do have some Visual Basic 6 experience) and have made a very basic program.

I am planning on adding a section to this website where I will comment on my progress and upload the (simple) programs I create.

I’m off to the cinema this evening with a friend, planning on going to see Will Smith’s new film Hitch (don’t laugh, there’s nothing else on!). Afterwards I’ll probably go out for dinner. Trouble is at that time, Leeds United will be playing Nottingham Forest. I’ll have my mobile phone out for most of the meal trying to find out the latest score – I’m going to look like one of those Chavs who is always texting on their (stolen) mobile phone!

Lastly, I hope you’re all voting for Leeds United on the ‘Win a player’ Coca Cola Competition. Leeds United are now top of the leader board by over 1000 votes. Remember, you can vote every day so just because you’ve voted earlier in the week it doesn’t mean you can’t vote again.

Good luck to Leeds United, you can beat Forest!

Sorry about the lack of updates over the weekend, I’ll try and cover everything now…

It was my birthday on Saturday so firstly went out to the local pub for a drink before going out to Bristol for another drink and to the cinema to see Constatine. I must say, I really did not enjoy this film. It has been having rave reviews, but the film didn’t do it for me.

I didn’t like the storyline for one thing, The Bible meets The Exorcist meets The Matrix was bizarre. My friends liked it, as do the film critics so it must have just been me.

Flares at football grounds are just dangerous…

Earlier on that day Leeds United played Gillingham. I always had a bad feeling about this game. Leeds are a strange team, especially this season. They play superb and generally get good results against the stronger sides in the league, although when they play the teams near the bottom of the table, they always mess up. Gillingham are in serious danger of being relegated, although were very unlucky to only get a draw against Leeds – they deserved to win.

Gillingham – a team to fear… only if you’re Leeds United

I bloody hope Leeds sort this out fast as they have Nottingham Forest this Wednesday – another team struggling down there.

This evening I watched Man on Fire on DVD. I haven’t seen it before, don’t know why I didn’t see it at the cinema last year. I was really impressed with it. It’s a hard hitting, action/thriller which sees Denzil Washington play a bodyguard who must avenge the killers of a little girl he was hired to protect.

The film is a real revenge story, in some ways similar to Kill Bill. It is very violent, but for what the criminals did, you never feel that Washington was actually doing much wrong – or is that just me being sick and twisted!?

Anyway, top film and one I seriously recommend you buy or rent on DVD!

Moving onto music now, my friend has had to remove the link to the Amarillo song by Peter Kay – his server simply couldn’t cope with the bandwidth. Good news though! You can now buy the single (which includes the video) from all good record shops. Get it now and make it No.1 this Sunday. I bought my copy today and have been listening to it loads, it’s pretty addictive! :o)

Lastly, visitors to Sparkster.net… I was checking up on how many of you have been visiting my website lately and have noticed a massive rise in the number of visits to my site, a lot of being direct hits as opposed to referrals from other websites.

Would anybody be able to tell me how you learnt about Sparkster.net? This sudden increase in traffic activity makes me wonder if Sparkster.net has been featured in anymore publications – it’s already been in The Yorkshire Post. Just contact me and let me know – thanks.

Well it was Red Nose Day today and Comic Relief has been quite good tonight, Little Britain and Vicar of Dibley were all entertaining. The highlight of the evening had to be Peter Kay’s Is this the way to Amarillo?

Very funny and well done, this can be downloaded from the Thumbache website here (LINK REMOVED).

Before you download it though, why not donate some money to Comic Relief here? If you don’t and you enjoy the entertainment created for Red Nose Day it’s effectively stealing – although I’m sure the organisers of the campaign won’t necessarily agree with those sentiments!

Last weekend I watched The Adam & Joe Best of DVD. I’ve seen the DVD and sketches so many times before, but they never get boring, they’re just so funny.

For those not in the know Adam & Joe is a sketch show created on a low budget by Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish.

Their humour is crude at times, but it is also very clever and well thought out. If you haven’t seen it before I highly recommend getting hold of the DVD. It’s just a shame it’s one of those “Best Of” DVDs. This covers four excellent series; it would have been nice to have all the series available.

While your DVD to arrive (you have ordered it haven’t you?), check out these hilarious sound clips. The first was taken from their third series, it is a song about my favourite actor Robert DeNiro.

Since The Adam & Joe Show ended the duo worked together but also on their own projects. Last year, Adam starred in The Stupid Version on BBC3, he performed this EXCELLENT parody of The Streets song Dry You’re Eyes Mate. It’s brilliant!

You may also want to check out this unofficial Adam & Joe website.

Football manager Kevin Keegan isn’t very good at handling pressure is he? How many major roles has he had in recent years? Three. How many has he quit now? Three. Last night the heat got too hot at Man City and he quit.

I don’t know why he always seems to pack his bags and leave. Maybe it’s because he wants to avoid an inevitable sacking (I wish all the ex-Leeds managers had quit, they wouldn’t have had a big fat pay off).

Something’s not right, he seems like a fighter on TV interviews prior to matches (remember his infamous “LOVE IT!” rant?), but off camera he appears to be a small man.

Still I like Keegan. He’s a good and honest. I wouldn’t have him as Leeds manager though. However I won’t be surprised if certain tabloids “make up” stories linking him with Leeds…

“EXCLUSIVE: Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has been having secret talks with ex-Man City manager Kevin Keegan a source close to the Yorkshire Club claims. The source who prefers to remain unnamed claims Keegan is No.1 on Bates manager list as he has a great history of promoting teams back to The Premiership and keeping them there”

and another

“INSIDE INFO: Managerless Man City are set to make a surprise swoop for Leeds United manager Kevin Blackwell. Blackwell has done wonders for the Coca-Cola Championship side and the Man City board believe he is the man to take City forward”
